Game Takes Us through the City of Compton in His Upcoming Album

Game is a busy man. Just last year he hit us with his double album The Documentary 2 and Documentary 2.5 which in my opinion was among the top west coast hip hop albums released last year alongside Kendrick Lamar’s album To Pimp a Butterfly and Dr Dre’s Compton which was a masterpiece as far as mixing is concerned. Anyway Game shows no signs of slowing down. The Compton rapper is scheduled to release a brand new 11 song soundtrack album to accompany the two-part documentary Streets of Compton. The documentary as you might guess is about his city Compton and it “chronicles the city’s history and illustrates how the iconic music, culture and style that came out of the area in the ’80s and early ’90s were influenced by the drugs, gangs and political turmoil of the time.”This is particularly exciting to me because based on The Documentary 2 and 2.5, Game has a lot to say concerning gang culture, he himself being a member of the notorious Blood gang which has terrorized residents of Compton and various cities all over the USA through violent crimes such as murder, rape, armed robbery as well as dealing in illicit drugs, and in particular cocaine and its freebase version crack. He already released one single titled Gang Sign which talks warns people to be careful of the gang signs they throw up and the gangs they affiliate themselves with, because although it may seem cool many people have died because of gang culture.Game seems to have really grown up and is conscious of the dangers of gang life. He’s no longer glorifying gangs as much as he used to. It seems he’s now using his fame to make people aware of what’s going on in his city, which is an admirable thing to do. If Gang Signs is anything to go by the album will feature a heavy, traditional west coast sound; something which has been missing recently due to how hip hop has changed and the influence of the Internet. Nower days New York artists sound like Atlanta artists and so on; there’s not as much distinction in the music as in the older days. So it’s great to know that Game is carrying on with the traditional west coast sound in the same way that Joey Bada$$ is carrying on with the traditional New York hip hop sound. The upcoming album contains features from several artists including Problem, Payso and Boogie. The tracklist is below and you can pre-order it on iTunes if you wish to get a copy come June 17th when it officially drops.
